The late designer Karl Lagerfeld and his legacy were this year's Met Gala themes. While some in the industry were uncomfortable with celebrating someone whose professional life was filled with controversial views on topics ranging from race to body shaming.  

The following are the most wearable beauty styles at the MET Gala 2023:  

Alia Bhatt is a soft, dewy beauty.   

A natural look with freckles shining through is a trademark of the performer, who even wore barely-there makeup at her wedding last year. Bhatt's makeup artist took it up a notch for her Met debut, with full coverage but a soft and dewy finish.  To achieve this look, avoid heavy contouring and instead, apply extra blush to your cheeks. Instead of a straight black liner, mix browns and bronze tones with a bit of kohl on your top and lower lash lines to bring depth to a simple yet glamorous look.    

Stick with it and enjoy yourself like Radhika Jones.  

Many celebrities wore pearl and rhinestone stickers. For a hint of glitter, model Gigi Hadid used unique stickers in the centre of her lower lash line. Paloma Elsesser also developed eye makeup with black and diamond rhinestones. Vanity Fair editor Radhika Jones, who wore her silver hair in a traditional bob with sparkling eye stickers over a neutral makeup look, was a hit, demonstrating how you can have fun with minimal makeup.  Janelle Monáe's dress was more of a performance, with one outfit revealing another and then another. Monáe drew inspiration for her eyes from Lagerfeld's favourite colours, black and white. For an effortless, edgy look, makeup artist Keita Moore used a silvery white on her waterline and thick mascara on her lower lashes.  

Micaela Diamond is a good match.  

It's usual to match your eyeshadow to your costume, but making it bold and washing the colour all the way to the temple, as actor Micaela Diamond did at the Met Gala, was an entirely different mood. Rachel Roberts, her makeup artist, produced similar violet eyes with glitter in the crease and lower lash lines for added drama. For added depth, use a darker tone of the shade you've chosen in the crease and the waterline.  

Jared Leto's eyes are Choupette blue.  

Blue eyes with winged liner are a classic 1960s look, and actor Jared Leto gave it a Chanel twist by wearing sparkly blue makeup to complete his tribute to Lagerfeld's cat, Choupette. While the cat costume may not be for everyone, shimmery blue eyes are ideal for summer outings.
