Adopting these five basic mental health-promoting habits can have a major long-term impact on your mental wellbeing.

People have become increasingly aware of the need to prioritise mental health and accord it a similar (or even greater) priority than physical health. Yet you don't have to do anything extreme; simply adopting some simple yet powerful daily behaviours that enhance mental wellbeing can be a terrific place to start. Nawal Mustafa, a cognitive neuroscientist, shared some of these practices on Instagram, writing, "Taking care of your mental health does not have to be expensive or complicated."


Here are five easy yet underappreciated practices that can enhance your psychological health to the greatest extent feasible

(i.e., with the highest ROI - return on investment)."


1. Moving your body: three times a week, 35 minutes of moderate exercise.


2. Maintaining a regular sleep schedule: 7 to 9 hours per night.


3. Getting direct sunlight: 20 minutes shortly after waking up.


4. Journaling your thoughts: 15 minutes every day or whenever you are distressed.


5. Mindfulness meditation: 20 minutes twice daily Hydrating: Drink plenty of water to keep your brain and body hydrated. Coffee does not qualify.


"Habits tuned to aiding mental health are important," stated Bhasker Malu, Lecturer and Assistant Dean (Academic Affairs) at Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences. In many respects, everyday positive habits assist the brain in conserving energy because one does not need to think about a certain activity for long because they have already chosen what they will accomplish. This enables increased inventiveness in life and work, among other advantages." Maintain constancy.


While it can be difficult to get started and maintain an activity for an extended period of time, motivation can have a significant influence. "The unfortunate and difficult reality is that if you want to incorporate habits that benefit your mental health, you'll have to push yourself until they become regular habits. "That will then become the new normal," Malu concluded.
